Oman Red, skippered by Pete Cummings with Olympic bronze medallist Chris Draper at the helm, wrapped up the 2009 iShares Cup, but it came down to the last leg of the last race on the last day of the last regatta in Almeria, Spain. Just one point after six regattas pipped a Yann Guichard Gitana pushing Oman to the last minute with a spirited final attack.
Almeria's usually strong winds never materialized, with light winds adding to the nerves of the 10 teams challenging for the Andulician event of the Extreme 40 series.
A large crowd of spectators, the biggest stadium audience of the year and claimed to be in the tens of thousands, packed the port of Almeria to see the series decided in the double points final race
