Nottingham Panthers finally ended Sheffield Steelers' 13-game winning run after a dramatic penalty shoot-out at the National Ice Stadium.

Steelers went into Sunday's game with a 100 per-cent record in the Sekonda Superleague, winning eight matches inside regulation. David Longstaff opened the scoring for the visitors, with Randall Weber replying. After trading goals in the third period, via Ashley Tait and Steve Roberts, the game moved into a shoot-out with P C Drouin eventually credited with the winning goal in a 3-2 result.

Sheffield's lead is down to eight points after London Knights' 6-2 victory over Newcastle Jesters at the Docklands Arena. Newcastle led 2-0 with goals from Matthew Oates and Eric Fenton, but London stormed back with Bryan Richardson's hat-trick and goals from Claude Jutras, Jay Neal and David Valliÿres.

Manchester Storm moved above Cardiff into third spot after a 6-3 win at the IceHouse. The Devils led 2-1 through Kip Noble and Jonathan Phillips after Marty Flichel's opener, but were then hit by a brace from Curtis Bowen and a goal from Greg Bullock. Vezio Sacratini pulled one back, but Troy Neumeier and Mike Morin sealed the victory.
