Lucilla Wright scored a goal in each half to steer Great Britain to a narrow victory over the United States which clinched a clean sweep in the three-match series at Milton Keynes.

The British women, preparing for the Olympic qualifying tournament at the same venue in March, turned in an unconvincing display and had to defend tenaciously in the closing stages as the Americans hit back with a late goal.

The hosts failed to score from four early penalty corners before Wright finally found the target in the 25th minute when she swept the ball in from a Sarah Blanks cross.

The Olton striker doubled her side's lead 11 minutes after the interval from an almost identical move as Kath Johnson hammered the ball out of defence to Blanks, who broke from just inside the opposition half before finding Wright.

Four minutes from time, Cindy Werley pulled one back for the tourists when she scrambled the ball in past Tracey Robb in goal from close range.
