Stewart and Rollins have been locked in a war of words for the past month but it was the face of The Daily Show that had the last laugh with a little help from a friend

"How could I make fun of a man dressed as a SWAT team stripper with Lady Gaga’s hair?" That’s exactly how Jon Stewart announced his arrival in the WWE after confronting Seth Rollins on Monday Night Raw.

The host of The Daily Show will call it a day soon after a 16-year stint fronting the US politics program, but on Monday night he showed that he might just have a future in the square-circle should he wish to pursue one.

As Mr Money in the Bank hosted his own twist of The Daily Show following a back-and-forth war of words with 52-year-old Stewart, the WWE Universe lay in wait to see if Stewart would follow up his threat of appearing on the WWE’s flagship show.

Rollins had started the feud when he claimed: “I am the most talented performer in the entire world. I can do whatever I want, whenever I want and there’s nobody or nothing that can stop me. … I could take over as host of The Daily Show for Jon Stewart and make that thing actually watchable.”

Rollins also laid down the challenge to Stewart when he appeared on The Daily Show last week, and true to his word, the show’s opening credits hit during Rollins’ segment on Monday Night Raw in Newark, New Jersey, as Stewart made his way to the ring.

Born in New York, Stewart performed in front of his hometown crowd as he lay into the so-called ‘Future of the WWE’, but he was soon squirming after Rollins decided to make do with the chit-chat and grab the TV presenter by the scruff of the neck.

However, Stewart found an unlikely partner in Randy Orton, as the Apex Predator’s entrance distracted Rollins enough to allow Stewart to deliver a low-blow to his opponent – for those not in the know, a low-blow involves a rather underhand trick of a kick to the groin.

Giving Rollins one more kick for good measure, Stewart fled the ring, while Orton merely laughed form the entrance ramp, his job done for the day.
