Seth Rollins got the show underway to tell the fans that no one can outsmart him as he bragged about retaining his WWE Championship in a Cage Match against Randy Orton at Extreme Rules. Kane grabbed the microphone to tell Rollins that if it hadn't been for his role has gatekeeper and the champion's illegal use of an RKO, he wouldn't be holding the title.

Orton approached the ramp to say that due to calls of cheating, there is an opportunity of a rematch on the cards, to which Roman Reigns responded to by saying that Authority are missing a giant in Big Show as he's now the Last Man Standing so he deserves a championship shot. Kane replied by making a tag team match with him and Rollins against Orton and Reigns for later on.

The King of the Ring tournament returned to WWE, with Dolph Ziggler taking on Bad News Barrett in the first match of the night. Barrett delivered a Wasteland to Ziggler but the Show Off was able to kick out. The former Intercontinental Champion then signalled for a Bull Hammer but Ziggler was able to dodge and hit a Superkick for a two count. Sheamus then came out to remind Ziggler that he forced him to kiss his behind the night before, which caused Barrett to take advantage of the distraction and hit the Bull Hammer to advance to the next round.

Big E took on Tyson Kidd while the rest of New Day accompanied the powerhouse to celebrate their Tag Team Championship win over the Brass Ring club on Sunday. Big E won the match quickly after his clothesline and pin combination was aided by Xavier Woods holding Kidd's foot down so he couldn't kick out. The Tag Team Champions celebrated their winning run on the stage while Cesaro and Natalya looked angered at Kidd's injustice.

Ryback finally silenced his antagonist Bo Dallas by comfortably defeating him with the Shellshock. The celebrations didn't last long as the lights cut off before Bray Wyatt appeared to hit the Sister Abigail on the Big Guy. Wyatt finally showed who he had been talking about in his previous promos and finished by shouting "Follow the buzzards."

John Cena didn't waste time to attempt to defend his United States Championship by issuing and open challenge to anyone in the locker room. Heath Slater took up the offer but was unable to eventually compete as Rusev attacked him from behind. Rusev then told Cena that USA is full of quitters as they've quit on their dreams already and at Payback the U.S. Champion will join them as he will be saying "I quit" in their rematch.

The second match of the King of the Ring tournament saw R-Truth defeat Stardust to advance to the semifinals. The two flamboyant superstars matched each other for the most part but Truth finally edged through with the Lie Detector.

Adam Rose defeated Fandango with the Party Foul thanks to a distraction by his former girlfriend Rosa Mendes. Rosa then told Fandango that she can't believe that he chose the fans instead of her but now she's found someone that truly deserves her. The Diva then planted a huge kiss on Adam Rose to signal that she has moved on while Fandango looked disgusted.

Naomi took on Brie Bella with Nikki at ringside to support her sister. Naomi looked to get back to winning ways following her title shot loss at Extreme Rules as she dominated over Brie with a series of rest holds. Naomi hit a roundhouse kick to the head of Brie before rolling up with an cradle pin for the victory to earn another title shot down the line.

Dean Ambrose and Sheamus locked arms in another King of the Ring first round match. The Lunatic Fringe was unable to capitalise on his win against Luke Harper the night before as Ziggler attacked Sheamus to cause him to win by disqualification. Ziggler then chased Sheamus through the crowd while Ambrose looked infuriated by the interference that had cost him the match.

Neville faced Luke Harper in the final first round King of the Ring matchup of the night. The recently debuted Superstar advanced to the semifinals with ease after landing the Red Arrow for the victory. The former NXT Champion looked grateful with his win and will face Sheamus in the next round in a rematch of the two from a few weeks ago where he won the first time.

Kane and Rollins made their way out to the ring to take on Reigns and Orton in a tag team match. Rollins knocked Reigns out of the ring before Orton planted him with an elevated DDT. The Viper then signalled for an RKO but Rollins responded with a side kick to the head before attempting a suicide dive but hit Kane by accident.

Kane didn't take the hit well and hit Rollins with a throat thrust before Reigns and Orton followed with Superman Punch and RKO double team for the win. The show then closed with the revelation that Rollins will face both Reigns and Orton in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship at Payback.
