GEOFF THOMAS FACES FOURTH KNEE OPERATION

Geoff Thomas, the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder, has been told that he needs a fourth knee operation. He has cartilage damage in the knee that he originally injured playing against Sunderland almost exactly two years ago.

Millwall have escaped punishment over the spanner-throwing incident in their game at Reading on 29 August through their prompt action in identifying the culprit. The Association said yesterday it will take no action over the incident. A 15-year-old non-club member has been banned indefinitely from Millwall's New Den ground.

Gary Megson has joined Shrewsbury Town- his ninth club during his 18- career career - after a brief stay at Lincoln City. He will make his debut at Crewe Alexandra today.

Gianluca Vialli has vowed never to play for Italy again despite appearing to make up with the national coach, Arrigo Sacchi. "After a sleepless night I took the decision to end this soap opera," Vialli said.
