GOLF Spaniards' slow march

Seve Ballesteros and Jose-Maria Olazabal were yesterday both warned for slow play and Bernhard Langer equalled a European Tour record that had stood since 1979 during the second round of the Spanish Open in Madrid.

Ballesteros, who shot a brilliant 67 for a two-round aggregate of 137, is four shots behind the joint leaders, Peter Mitchell and Ignacio Garrido, who are on 133, 11 under par. However, the Spaniards - who were playing with Jesper Parnevik - attracted almost all the spectators, and they became so far behind that both Spaniards were twice warned to speed up, Ballesteros at the 13th and 14th, and Olazabal at the 11th and 14th.

In making the halfway cut, Langer equalled the record set by Neil Coles of playing 56 consecutive tournaments without missing a cut.
