Anyone who's ever picked up a club knows golf can be a frustrating game.

Somehow the professionals manage to make it look easy - at least most of the time.

Bubba Watson had a nightmare on the 17th hole yesterday and with it provided evidence for the game's capacity to infuriate.

The American went long and left up the against the wall with his second shot on the par-4 Road Hole. Rather than try a ricochet off the wall, he attempted a lay-up of sorts but it didn't really go to plan.

With his fourth shot from the eponymous road, the visibly angry Watson then putted through the rough, onto the green, and off the other side.

It led to a triple bogey and sent him from one-over and from a position of making the cut to four-over.

Par was required for Watson to avoid boarding a plane back to Florida rather than remain in St Andrews for the final two days of the tournament, and his meltdown on the 17th was only rubbed in when he birdied the final hole.
