David Howell rises from ‘despair’ to win Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrew’s

“It has been a long, long road from the depths of despair,” said former Ryder Cup player David Howell, 38, after he won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrew’s yesterday

It was the Briton’s first European Tour title in seven years, his final-day 67 enough to cancel out American Peter Uihlein’s two-shot lead and force a sudden-death play-off which Howell won after birdying the second extra hole.
