Sergio Garcia claimed a two-stroke victory in the rain-delayed Wyndham Championship in North Carolina yesterday to earn his first PGA Tour victory since the 2008 Players Championship and secured his place in the European Ryder Cup team. Garcia finished with a 66 to wind up at 18-under 262.

The European captain, Jose Maria Olazabal, now knows nine of his 10 automatic qualifiers: Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Graeme McDowell, Paul Lawrie, Francesco Molinari, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Garcia and Peter Hanson. The final spot up for grabs is between the German Martin Kaymer – who is not in the field at this week's Johnnie Walker Championships at Gleneagles – the Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts, Englishman David Lynn and the Spaniard Rafael Cabrera Bello.

Ian Poulter, who had been in position for the final spot, will now probably be one of the two captain's picks to be revealed on Monday.
