Rose fightback denies Woods and earns showdown with Westwood

No dream final in Turkey, only dream golf from Lee Westwood. A 61 in the afternoon followed a 64 in the morning to guarantee Westwood $1m (£625,000) today when he goes up against Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose for the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final first prize of $1.5m.

Rose was the most unpopular man here last night after ousting Tiger Woods by a stroke in the semi-finals. There were arguably only two faces the Turkish public could put to the eight names that began this golfing jamboree. Woods was one, Rory McIlroy the other. Woods beat McIlroy in the morning and until Rose holed his approach at the 14th for an eagle, appeared to be accounting for him, too.

Rose was unrepentant. "I just felt way out of my rhythm early in the round. But I did enough, hung there and clicked into the match really during the last few holes," he said.

Westwood's 61 lowered the course record. His opponent, Charl Schwartzel, carded a four-under-par 67 and still lost by six strokes. Westwood said: "It was just one of those days where I got on a roll and the hole started to look bigger."
