Rory McIlroy of Britain hits his second shot at the 12th hole during the third round of the European Masters tournament at Crans-sur-Sierre
Rory McIlroy, 19, takes a four-stroke lead into today's final round of the Omega European Masters here in Switzerland. If he wins the title he will become the third-youngest winner in European Tour history.
South Africa's Dale Hayes was 18 when he won the 1971 Spanish Open and Seve Ballesteros was five days younger than McIlroy when taking the 1976 Dutch Open.
A round of 66 yesterday took McIlroy to 13 under par and continued a remarkable turnaround in his fortunes after he had missed the last three halfway cuts.
His closest challengers, all on nine under, are England's Robert Dinwiddie, the French pair Christian Cevaer and Jean-François Lucquin, Alejandro Cañi-zares of Spain, Argentina's Juan Abbate and Julien Clément, a Swiss player who does not have a European Tour card.
Jim Furyk took the second-round clubhouse lead with an eight-under 62 at the BMW Championship in St Louis. Spain's Sergio Garcia, meanwhile, made an impact with an hole in one at the par-three third, where he holed out from 204 yards to go to four under par.
