Bruce Grobbelaar will wake up this morning to contemplate two weeks without wages or football, and an anxious Christmas period ahead.

Grobbelaar has been suspended and fined the maximum amount by his club, Southampton, for failing to return on time from an international tournament in his native Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile the hearing of allegations of match-fixing against himself, John Fashanu and Hans Segers has been adjourned until 3 January.

Southampton are upset that a player they have stood by during all the allegations promised "hand on heart" to return to the club on Friday 24 November. He did not show and Saints were forced to play the Premiership match against Bolton at The Dell with three outfield players as substitutes. Grobbelaar eventually turned up last Tuesday.
