Yuri Titov, the former Soviet gymnast who won nine Olympic medals between 1956 and 1964, was deposed as president of the international federation, the FIG, on Tuesday after 20 years in charge. Officials said the FIG general assembly voted to replace Titov with Bruno Grandi, of Italy, in a bid to modernise the sport and make it more attractive to television viewers. The decision means that Titov will also lose his seat on the International Olympic Committee.
