Cardigan Connor scrambled two runs off the last delivery as Hampshire scraped a Benson and Hedges Cup win against the Combined Universities by virtue of losing one fewer wicket at The Parks yesterday.

Chasing a total of 228 for 8, following a fine 78 by the Universities' captain, Gregor MacMillan, Hampshire required 10 off the last over by Neil Killeen. He bowled Adrian Aymes with the first ball and Rajesh Maru off the fifth before Connor dashed a two off the last to level the scores for the loss of eight wickets. However, the victory will not be enough to keep Hampshire in the competition.

Wayne Larkins cracked a 105-ball century to set up a slender seven-run win for Durham against the Minor Counties at Jesmond. Durham's total of 250 for 9 looked within reach when the Minor Counties were 133 for 1, but 31 off the last five overs with four wickets left proved beyond them and Durham kept alive their slender hopes of a quarter-final place.
