There were defeats for National League sides Bromley, Isca and Gloucester City in the third round of the Hockey Association Cup yesterday with the Premier side Surbiton only scraping through 4-3 on penalty strokes after drawing 1-1 with the Nastro Azzurro South club, Wimbledon.

Ipswich's 5-0 win away to Bromley, with Andy Cook and Andy Berresford each scoring twice, was probably the day's highlight although Cannock led the goal spree with a 13-0 win against Crostyx. Bobby Crutchley, the League's top goalscorer, scored five.

There was no fairy-tale win for Rob Hill and his Yeovil and Sherborne squad who lost 12-2 to visiting First Division leaders, Beeston, for whom Jeff Longden, Mike Huckle and Ian Hammond each scored hat-tricks.

In a highly attractive, all Premier League game at Southgate, Barford Tigers scored first through Dharminder Singh before Southgate, with goals from Duncan Woods, Peter Gibbons and James Duthie, built up a 3-1 lead only to be pulled back to 3-2 with a last minute penalty stroke from Pritpal Bhurji. In the only other all Premier tie, Havant's Ian Pattison opened the scoring at Teddington before his side lost 6-3.
