India, reserves for the World Cup after failing to qualify on penalty strokes, held England to a 1-1 draw in the first of two women's internationals in Basingstoke, writes Peter Colwill. It was a fluent and spirited performance by England but they were unable to capitalise on a string of chances. India took the lead in the 17th minute when a long corner deflected off an English stick to the back of the circle from where Geetha beat Jo Thompson. England's equaliser did not come until the second minute of the second half when Tina Cullen turned in Anna Bennett's reverse stick cross.
