Hockey: Hounslow go Euro
THE newest of the European competitions, the Cup-Winners' Cup, has been a happy hunting ground for English clubs. There has been an English team in each of the five finals, with Hounslow the first winners of the men's competition and First Personnel Sutton Coldfield the current holders of the women's title, writes Bill Colwill from Birmingham.
Both teams, along with the English women's cup holders, Hightown, will be striving to maintain this remarkable record in the competition starting at Birmingham University this morning with the two finals being played on Monday. The teams are drawn in two pools of four with the winners in each contesting the final.
Bolstered by a fully fit squad, Hounslow, the HA Cup finalists and winners of this season's National League, have been drawn against the current Scottish League champions, Torbrex Wanderers from Dundee (whom they play in their first game this afternoon), Atletic Terrassa from Spain and Belgium's Royal Baudouin.
