Paul Gascoigne is unlikely to make the England squad for the Tournoi de France, which begins tomorrow, after suffering a badly gashed and bruised right thigh against Poland on Saturday.

Glenn Hoddle, the England coach, wants him to travel but says the injury is likely to keep him out of Wednesday's opening game against Italy. David Beckham, who took an ankle knock in Chorzow, expects to make the trip, and will therefore have to leave behind the woman one newspaper said yesterday is to be his wife - Victoria Adams, better known as Posh Spice.

The players were given yesterday off after their 3.30am return to Luton from Katowice and will reassemble today for the afternoon flight to France.
