Sweet sixteen for Cigar

Cigar sprinted down the Arlington Park home straight and into the equine record books when he recorded his 16th successive win by taking out the US$750,000 Arlington Citation Challenge last night. Under the urgings of rider Jerry Bailey, he made his move down the back stretch, claiming the pacemaker, Dramatic Gold, on the home turn, before racing away for a three-length win. The Illinois win tied him with Citation's record, which has stood for 46 years.
