The International Federation has been ordered by a New Jersey federal court to strip its heavyweight champion, Francois Botha, of his title.

Germany's Axel Schulz and his promoters filed the law suit, claiming the South African should lose his title because after he beat Schulz for the vacant crown in December, he tested positive for steroids.

An American district judge yesterday ruled that the IBF's failure to remove the champion after he admitted using steroids was an "egregious" violation of their own rules.

Lawyers for the IBF and Botha, who was being lined up to face Mike Tyson, have indicated that they will appeal against the ruling, but if their efforts prove unsuccessful, Schultz looks likely to meet Michael Moorer for the vacant title.
