Ice Hockey: Devils' commanding lead
CARDIFF DEVILS stretched their lead in the Premier Division to eight points over the weekend when they beat their second-placed rivals, Fife Flyers, 7-3 before thrashing the bottom team, Teesside Bombers, 17-7, writes Steve Pinder.
In contrast, Murrayfield Racers failed to gain a point from two away matches, losing to Basingstoke Beavers and Bracknell Bees.
In the match against Basingstoke, Racers led 5-2 and 10-8 but, with four minutes left, Beavers levelled through Mario Belanger and, 17 seconds from time, Dave Whistle scored the winner.
Murrayfield had four players - Mark Ware, Tony Hand, Frank Morris and Richard Laplante - thrown out of the match for fighting during their 14-4 defeat by Bracknell. They were joined by two Bracknell players but the Bees took full advantage by scoring six goals in the final period.
