Ice Hockey: Flyers take wing again

CARDIFF DEVILS claimed the the Premier Division lead on Monday, a 14-3 win over Peterborough Pirates taking them above Fife Flyers. The giddiness, however, lasted just 24 hours, writes Steve Pinder.

Flyers had the harder task on Tuesday, meeting Murrayfield Racers, who had won 7-4 the last time they met. This time play had to be halted after 15 minutes when Flyers' equaliser at 3-3 saw objects thrown on to the ice. The resumed game saw Fife prevail

7-6, though not before passion got the better of Dean Edmiston of Racers and Mark Morrison of Flyers, who squared up with two minutes to go and played no further part in the contest, Edmiston receiving a match penalty.

The night's other game saw Nottingham Panthers defeat Sheffield Steelers 6-3.
