Ice hockey: Olympic Qualifying - Sheffield

Alex Dampier, the Great Britain coach, takes his strongest squad to Sheffield for the Olympic qualifying tournament, which starts tomorrow, in an attempt to secure the one remaining place in next year's Winter Olympic Games at Lillehammer, Norway. Poland, Japan, Latvia and Slovakia are the other contenders and the latter two have players with NHL experience. Great Britain won gold in 1936, but have not been to the Games since 1948 and they open the event against Poland tomorrow at 7pm. On Sunday, Japan meet Slovakia (7.0) and on Monday, Poland play Latvia at 2.30, with Britain v Japan at 7.0. Qualifying continues after Tuesday's rest day until Saturday.

Admission: GB games: pounds 8 adults, pounds 5 children/concessions, pounds 22 family ticket. Season tickets: all matches pounds 40; GB matches pounds 24 adults, pounds 17 children/concessions, pounds 68 family ticket.
