Klaas-Jan Huntelaar The most audacious of Liverpool's rumoured transfer targets for the summer is Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Supposedly Rodgers has identified a need for a consistent goal-scorer and the Dutchman, who has 31 goals in 55 appearances for his national team and scored 29 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances last season, has emerged as a prime target. Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has confirmed that the striker has a £17m release clause in his contract and Rodgers is rumoured to be preparing to go head-to-head with Europe's biggest clubs for the player's signature. While the club may have the funds to activate the release clause it seems highly improbable that they would even consider a bid as they cannot offer him Champions League football. Schalke are also very keen to keep hold of their striker and are trying to tie him down to a new contract.
