Ally McCoist is expected to join up with Scotland today for their flight to the United States, despite missing out on completing the double with Rangers.

A recurring calf injury kept McCoist on the sidelines for the 5-1 demolition of Hearts at Hampden, but the 33-year-old is due to assemble with the Scotland party before they leave for America early tomorrow.

Scotland face the United States next Sunday and Colombia on 29 May in their final two warm-up games before the European Championship finals.

A knee operation forces the defender Alan McLaren - McCoist's Rangers team-mate - to miss the trip. Middlesbrough's Derek Whyte steps in.

McCoist yesterday revealed that a pounds 1m offer to play in Japan could not dissuade him from agreeing a two-year contract to take his stay with Rangers to 15 years. "I freely admit my main incentives for staying are to help Rangers chase 10 league titles in a row and to overhaul Jimmy McGrory's Old Firm goals record," he said.

"Hand on heart, I never saw myself playing elsewhere. I am absolutely elated to have come to an agreement with Rangers."
