Damon Hill slid off a rain-soaked track in Estoril, Portugal, yesterday when the brakes on his new Williams-Renault FW18 failed. Hill was unhurt and managed a best time of 1min 36.53sec on the 2.7-mile track. Alain Prost, now the McLaren-Mercedes' technical adviser, had a best time of 1:42:18 from only four laps in the new MP4/11.
