Brits hoping for Motocross success on home soil

Donington hosts the 'World Cup of Motocross' this weekend and Britain will be hoping to topple favourites France and USA on home soil.

The Red Bull Motocross of Nations will see competitors from 20 countries come together to compete in the MX1, MX2 and Open disciplines, with Great Britain represented by Red Bull riders Tommy Searle (MX2), and Shaun Simpson (Open).

The US come to Donington with a stong line-up of riders and the French team are stongly tipped for success but Simpson is in optimistic mood: "Winning the race is going to be hard, as the US has a really good team, but with Tommy Searle in the team, we are also very competitive and should certainly be able to get on the podium.”

The 'dirt bike' event, running since 1947, was due to take place at Moneyglass Desmene in Northern Ireland but after the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme announced it would not be held at this venue Donnington stepped in, offering to host the end-of-season team event.

Simpson added: “It is the first MX of Nations I am racing in myself. It is going to be an exciting race, but different to other world races, due to the countries emotion involved in this. It is going to be the best race of the year."
