Welcome to The Independent's live coverage of the United States Grand Prix, brought to you from the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Nico Rosberg starts from pole after a hugely impressive qualifying session which saw him pip his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton leads the Drivers' Championship by 17 points from Rosberg, but with just three races to go the heat is on in texas.

The race has been marred by the no-show of both Caterham and Marussia. Both teams fell into administration last week, and due to their financial restrictions have chose against making the pan-Atlantic trip to the US.

That means there are just 18 cars competing, and only 17 on the grid as Sebastian Vettel must start from the pit-lane after making a complete power unit change before the weekend - his sixth of the season - and subsequently received the penalty before he'd even got into his Red Bull for Friday practice.
