Something special is happening in Battersea Park this weekend. In less than 48 hours’ time, 20 of the world’s top racing drivers will conclude their 11-race battle to decide who becomes the inaugural FIA Formula E Champion, right on our doorstep. However, on-track action is just the tip of the iceberg.

While the cars themselves are exciting enough – sleek, electric-powered beasts capable of rocketing to 60mph in less than three seconds, all with zero emissions – o ff-track, there will be loads of entertainment for all the family. As Formula E cars are quiet, races have a dramatic soundtrack of electronica performed live by the resident Formula EJ.

In the eVillage there’s a funfair – including a giant Ferris wheel with spectacular views of the city – as well as live street dance performances and delicious street food. Entry is free on Friday 12pm-8pm. For ticket holders it’s open on Saturday 8am-8pm and Sunday 8am-6pm.

With Formula E race simulators and driver autograph sessions, the VISA London ePrix will feel more like a family festival than a typical motor racing event.

See the event programme here.

Six drivers are still in with a chance of being champion – but Nelson Piquet Jr and Lucas di Grassi, Brazil’s finest, along with Swiss Sébastien Buemi are the most likely candidates. Fingers crossed, we may even see Britain’s own Sam Bird and Oliver Turvey deliver something special in front of the home crowd , for Virgin Racing and NEXTEV TCR respectively.

Indeed, you could give them a helping hand: fans can influence the outcome of the race via the unique FanBoost feature. Simply go online to vote for your favourite driver; the three with the most votes will get a temporary power boost equivalent to an extra 40bhp. It could be all that Bird and Turvey need to smash it out of the park…
