Thomas Johansson, of Sweden, won his first ATP tour title when he beat Martin Damm, of the Czech Republic, the second seed, in the final of the Copenhagen Open yesterday.

COPENHAGEN OPEN Semi-finals: M Damm (Cz Rep) bt K Kucera (Slovak) 6-4 3-6 6-3; T Johansson (Swe) bt L Burgsmuller (Ger) 6-2 6-4. Final: Johansson bt Damm 6-4 3-6 6-2. Doubles final: A Olhovskiy (Rus) and B Steven (NZ) bt K Carlsen and F Fetterlein (Den) 6-4, 6-2.

MEN'S CHAMPIONS CUP (Indian Wells, Calif) Singles quarter-finals: T Muster (Aus) bt M Philippoussis (Aus) 6-3 7-6; M Chang (US) bt C Pioline (Fr) 6-3 6-2; J Bjorkman (Swe) bt A Berasategui (Sp) 6-2 6-3; B Ulihrach (Cz Rep) bt B Black (Zim) 6-4 6-2.
