Yorkshire's general committee will meet on 26 November to assess the strength of opposition to their proposed move from Headingley to a new pounds 50m stadium near Wakefield. Chris Hassell, the county's chief executive, said yesterday: "It is up to the committee to decide whether to offer a ballot to members on the issue but at the moment the position is unchanged and official policy is to pursue the option of setting up a new home of our own at Wakefield."

Mohammad Zahid, a 20-year-old fast bowler playing before his home crowd, took 6-54 as a Pakistan Cricket Board XI dismissed New Zealand for a meagre 171 in their first innings of their opening tour match in Sahiwal yesterday. New Zealand, who won the toss, fought back to take two opposition wickets for 32 before bad light stopped play five overs early.

Sanjay Manjrekar has been recalled to open the batting for India in the first Test against South Africa on Wednesday. He replaces Vikram Rathore, who played in the side which beat the Australians in a one-off Test match in New Delhi. Pankaj Dharmani replaces the injured Saurav Ganguly.

Wes Hall, the former West Indies fast bowler and team manager, has been voted chairman of their selection panel. He replaces his fellow Barbadian and former Test batsman, David Holford, who did not seek re-election.
