Crystal Palace have signed Tottenham's England Under-21 goalkeeper Chris Day for an initial pounds 225,000, with a further pounds 200,000 payable depending on appearances.

Tottenham are giving a trial to a Norwegian goalkeeper, Espen Baardson, who has been playing in United States soccer.

Southampton have completed the signing of the Bristol City defender Richard Dryden for pounds 150,000.

Carlisle have signed Stephane Pounewatchy from the French club Gueugnon. The 28-year-old defender is the Third Division side's first European player.

Saturday's Scottish Premier Division match between Dunfermline and Hearts has been postponed because of Hearts' trip to play Red Star Belgrade in the Cup-Winners' Cup tomorrow. It may be played on 31 August.

Hibernian have signed Dundee United's defender Brian Welsh and midfielder Ian Cameron from Partick Thistle. Cameron arrived in a swap deal which took Dave Farrell and Gareth Evans to Partick; the fee for Welsh will be fixed by a tribunal.
