Juan Antonio Samaranch may lead the International Olympic Committee into the next century. Samaranch, who will be 75 in July and has held the post of president for 15 years, had previously promised to step aside in 1997. However, the Spaniard is now considering a bid to extend his term beyond the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and is keeping his potential successors guessing before deciding whether to stand for re-election at the IOC session in Lausanne in 1997.
