Olympic Games: Football: Ghana kick off in style
GHANA, leading lights of Africa's emergence into world football, dissected Australia 3-1 in their opening game in a style which suggests they will adorn the tournament as well as living up to their billing as medal contenders.
Fielding three of the side which won the under 17 world cup in Italy last year, their ball skills and organisation were too much for the hard-working Australians. Kwame Ayew of Metz, the younger brother of Marseille's Abedi Pele, scored twice and Mohammed Gargo, who plays for Torino, once. The second-half saw an appearance by the 15-year-old Ossei Kuffuor, who has already been signed up by Torino. No African team has ever won the Olympic title.
