OLYMPICS / Barcelona 1992: Table Tennis: Gold for Waldner

Jan-Ove Waldner, the Swedish former world champion, drives towards a gold medal yesterday in the men's table tennis singles, overcoming the world No 1 from France, Jean-Philippe Gatien, 21-10, 21-18, 25-23. It was Sweden's first gold of the Games and the first table tennis final the Chinese had not contested, Gatien beating Ma Wenge in his semi-final to deny them a clean sweep.
