THE gulf between the International Olympic Committee and FIFA, football's governing body, over the place of the world's game in the world's sporting festival, is growing.

FIFA accuses the IOC of ruining the tournament in Barcelona. The IOC, disappointed at FIFA's rule that only under- 23s may enter, have hinted that the game may not have much of an Olympic future.
