BRITAIN'S Carl Prean, who had done well toqualify for the last 16 in the table-tennis, was knocked out by Sweden's former world champion Jan-Ove Waldner.

Prean, the world No 20, was unlucky to find Waldner in one of those moods when he chooses to unveil the game's most outrageous attacking talent. He won 21-15, 21-14, 21-15.

Prean was in good company as he made his exit. The Olympic champion, Yoo Nam Kyu of South Korea, was beaten in a thriller by the world no 1 from France, Jean-Philippe Gatien, 22-24, 25-23, 21-19, 17-21, 21-19.
