Lee comes out fighting with a gold medal prediction
"I really do think we can win the gold medal. There are a lot of people who don't think we can but I don't care. We can win it, no problem. Will we? I don't know." The fighting words of Great Britain's coach, Jason Lee, yesterday.
Lee, who played for Britain at the Barcelona and Atlanta Games, knows only too well the problems that face teams in Olympic tournaments and that there are no easy games. The coach, who took over barely nine months ago, has already changed the style of play and, although he largely inherited the squad has made a couple of brave additions, Scotland's Graham Dunlop and Teddington's Rob Moore. His final selection will not please everyone, particularly the omission of David Mathews and Martin Jones.
Britain begin their campaign against Egypt tomorrow and then complete their Pool programme against South Korea, Spain, Germany and Pakistan.
