Politicians get £1m pick of Games seats
Dramatic new images of the London's Olympic infrastructure in its final stages of completion were released yesterday, as it emerged that politicians had block-booked around 13,000 VIP tickets ahead of the Games.
In a move likely to infuriate taxpayers, tickets totalling at least £1m are believed to have been ordered by government ministers, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson and the leaders of 33 boroughs. They are believed to include VIP passes to some of the best seats at London 2012 and corporate dining.
The photograph includes the Olympic Stadium, the Olympic Vilage and Basketball Arena. The Velodrome, bottom right – a 6,000-capacity arena that will host Olympic cycling events – is the first venue to be completed. Nicknamed "the Pringle", it forms the core of an extensive velopark that will include a 6.5km mountain bike trail and a BMX course.
