CYCLING

CHRIS HOY led the way in London yesterday, after doing the same in Beijing with his three gold medals (keirin, sprint and team sprint). Hoy has not had much time for training, what with becoming something of a fixture on the chat show and promotional circuit, so he won't be competing at the track cycling World Cup, which gets under way in Manchester in two weeks' time. The team pursuit gold medallists Ed Clancy and Geraint Thomas will be there, though, hoping to deliver more success for Team GB, as will fellow medallists JASON KENNY, JAMIE STAFF, VICTORIA PENDLETON, ROSS EDGAR, WENDY HOUVENAGHEL, CHRIS NEWTON and STEVEN BURKE. The road race gold medallist Nicole Cooke followed her Beijing triumph with World Championship victory in Italy last month. She is enjoying a break and returns to training next month.

SWIMMING

Double gold medallist Rebecca Adlington (400 metres and 800m freestyle) will be taking a well-deserved break after her record-breaking show in China but the next generation of Olympic talent will be put to the test at the European Short Course Championships in Rijeka, Croatia. Fellow medal winners KERI-ANNE PAYNE, DAVID DAVIES (both 10km marathon silver), JOANNE JACKSON (400m freestyle bronze) and CASSIE PATTEN (10km marathon bronze) will join Adlington in competing at the National Championships in March (venue to be confirmed) before heading for the World Championships in Rome next summer.

ATHLETICS

High jump silver medallist GERMAINE MASON plans to return from Jamaica to compete in the European indoor season while triple jump silver medallist PHILLIPS IDOWU is also likely to compete, although not in the European Indoor Championships in Turin. The 400m gold medallist CHRISTINE OHURUOGU is considering making a couple of domestic appearances during the indoor season in the new year as she sets her sights on repeating her success in London in four years' time.

SAILING

Britain's America's Cup challenge dominates the plans of the Team GB sailors. Ben Ainslie (who won a third gold in three straight Games) is likely to stick with his Finn class boat for the London Games in 2012. SARAH AYTON, PIPPA WILSON and SARAH WEBB await confirmation of their event being included in the 2012 Games before deciding their plans. ANDREW SIMPSON and IAIN PERCY (Star Class gold medal winners) may compete in the America's Cup, while the Laser gold medallist PAUL GOODISON could change boat class for the London Games.

EQUESTRIANISM

Four of Britain's Team Event bronze medallists will be in action over the next six weeks. DAISY DICK and WILLIAM FOX-PITT compete at the Le Lion d'Angers young horses championship in France (which started yesterday and runs until Sunday). Fox-Pitt will be joined by TINA COOK and MARY KING at the £100,000 Express Eventing at the Millennium Stadium next month. SHARON HUNT has yet to confirm her return to competition.

CANOEING

Tim Brabants had pledged to return to medicine before returning to his sport in time to prepare for the 2012 Games in London. However, he may compete at next year's World Canoe Kayak Championships in Canada if he can spare time to train around his work, and will also appear at the Dubai Open invitational next month. DAVID FLORENCE, silver medallist in the men's slalom, has begun training for 2012.

ROWING

The international season remains six months away, although the coxless four gold medallists TOM JAMES, PETE REED, STEVE WILLIAMS and ANDY HODGE are expected to inform coach Jürgen Gröbler of their future intentions by the end of this month. Hodge has confirmed he will captain the Molesey Boat Club next season, while Williams has hinted at competing in the 2012 Games. Lightweight sculls gold medallist MARK HUNTER is to coach in California next year but intends to compete at 2012, leaving fellow medal winner ZAC PURCHASE to search for a new partner or change to the lightweight single.

BOXING

JAMES DeGALE will be ringside with promoter Bob Arum at the Bernard Hopkins v Kelly Pavlik fight in Atlantic City tomorrow night as he plans to turn pro following middleweight gold in Beijing. DAVID PRICE (bronze, super heavyweight) could compete at the European Amateur Championships in Liverpool in next month.
