Stuart Pearce is poised to lead England into the European Championship finals this summer, more than two years after Terry Venables told him his international career looked over.
The Forest full-back is set to celebrate his 34th birthday by leading England out against Croatia on Wednesday. With Tony Adams struggling with injury and David Platt out of favour, the captain's arm-band could stay in his possession for Euro 96.
"He's playing as well now as I've seen him play," Venables said. "He could lead his country this summer. His attitude is brilliant. The break he had seems to have done him good because he's come back fresh."Reuse content
