Preparations for the European equestrian championships in Italy at the end of September are well under way, but there is further opportunity to watch the leading riders at the final two senior international horse trials of the domestic season, at Burghley in Lincolnshire and Blenheim in Oxfordshire.
The Burghley Pedigree Chum Horse Trials from 31 August to 3 September is, with Badminton, the most senior horse trials in Britain, sharing the top ranking with the Olympic Games, the World and European championships. The trials are held in the grounds of Burghley House, an Elizabethan edifice completed in 1587. A fortnight later, the Blenheim International Horse Trials take place in the park at Blenheim Palace. The Baroque-style building was finished in 1722.
