THE SECTION of the Rules of Racing under which the Grand National was declared void is Rule 28, paragraph XII, sub-section g. It states: 'Should the Starter declare a false start and the recall flag not be raised, the race shall be void unless all the horses pull up before completing the course in a flat race or a circuit of the course in a steeplechase, hurdle or National Hunt flat race, and return to the Starter, except that any horse which falls before completing a circuit in a steeplechase, hurdle or National Hunt flat race shall be regarded as having satisfied the requirements of this sub-Rule but shall be withdrawn by the Starter.'
