BEFORE taking the Prix Lupin with Hernando, Francois Boutin and Cash Asmussen were successful in the other Group One race at Longchamp, the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, with Madeleine's Dream. France's equivalent of the 1,000 Guineas was expected to fall to the Sheikh Mohammed-owned, Andre Fabre-trained Baya, but she was only fourth.

In Rome, Paul Cole's Great Palm landed pounds 57,000 in the Group One Premio Presidente della Repubblica, with Luca Cumani's Masad three and a half lengths away in third and Clive Brittain's Boloardo fifth.

Great Palm, the 4-5 favourite, made the running and won impressively. Cumani fared better at San Siro, Milan, where Inner City (Michael Roberts) won the Premio Sirmione very easily at odds of 30-100.

Karinga Bay (Brian Rouse) gave new trainer Gary Moore his first pattern-race win with his first runner in that grade by taking the pounds 30,612 Badener Meile (1m) at Baden-Baden.
