Racing: Dettori to fight bans
FRANKIE DETTORI'S appeals against suspensions imposed by the Irish Turf Club are to be heard in Dublin on Monday morning.
The Italian jockey, banned for a total of 12 days at the Curragh last Sunday, was found guilty of improper riding on Altibr, and for using a defective back protector.
The back protector had had its crotch strap removed so as to avoid aggravating a previous haemorrhoid condition.
The suspensions are due to start a week today and would rule out Dettori from the last two days of Newmarket's important July Meeting, a big day at York, plus a valuable card at Newbury.
Michael Caulfield, secretary of the Jockeys' Association, said: "We think there's a chance of getting this overturned."
