Racing: Dunwoody atones with treble
RICHARD DUNWOODY rode a treble on his return to the saddle at Sandown yesterday, shortly after issuing a public apology for his involvement in a late-night fracas at a London hotel.
Dunwoody and another jump jockey, Roger Marley, were arrested for disorderly behaviour outside the Plaza on Hyde Park hotel after attending the Jockey of the Year awards, where Dunwoody was named Jump Jockey of the Year. Both jockeys were cautioned before being released several hours later.
'I deeply regret the incident early on Monday morning and the adverse publicity it might have brought to the ceremony and to my profession,' Dunwoody said yesterday. 'I was upset at Roger Marley's arrest and this unfortunately led to my own.'
Dunwoody was riding for the first time in a week yesterday after suffering a minor injury to his hand. Victories on Amari King (evens), Musthaveaswig (15-8) and Shamana (13-8) left him with 143 winners this season, 17 ahead of Peter Scudamore.
