ZAFONIC, ridden by Pat Eddery, was the comfortable winner of yesterday's Prix Morny at Deauville, giving Khalid Abdullah his first juvenile Group One winner in France. Mark Johnston's Marina Park (Dean McKeown) was a creditable third, but the second British challenger, Port Lucaya, could finish only ninth of the 10 runners.

Eddery sent his mount on a furlong and a half out, and held off the challenge of Italian-trained filly Secrage by three-quarters of a length in the heavy ground, with Marina Park a further half- length away.

British runners fared little better in the 15-furlong Group Two Prix Kergorlay later in the afternoon, with John Hammond's Sought Out, ridden by Cash Asmussen, beating Gold Cup winner Drum Taps by five lengths. Richard Hannon's Michelozzo, the 1989 St Leger winner, was third.
