BENFLEET: a dual winner on turf in May, at around a mile, this three-year-old attempted to exploit his low handicap mark for all-weather tracks when running at Lingfield on Friday. The 12-furlong trip proved just too far, however, and he was outstayed close home by hat- trick achieving filly Shifting Mist. The colt would be a serious proposition over a shorter journey. GREEN PALM TREE: drifted in the betting market before her racecourse debut at Ripon on Saturday, but after forcing the pace was narrowly outpointed by the heavily backed favourite Lennox Lewis. A well-bred filly, she can win in higher grade next time. (B Hanbury)

POLAR STORM: a 14-1 shot in a decent handicap over Newbury's straight mile on Saturday, she faded in the final furlong to finish sixth, under four-lengths behind the winner, Red Earth. The Sussex-trained filly can return to form at a turning track. (Lady Herries)
