JOKIST: this veteran indicated at Folkestone on Friday he could yet return to the winners' enclosure. Ran on late to be a close-up fifth to Panchellita. Obviously not as sprightly as he was - the last of this 10-year-old's 10 victories came two years ago - but a substantial drop down the weights can more than compensate. (W Jarvis)

PAONIC: appeared to run disappointingly when an odds-on favourite at Thirsk on Monday. This two-year-old colt, having his third run, finished third to Indiahra. That winner, however, beat another good field at Haydock on Friday. (L Cumani)

WAFFLE ON: faced a stiff task, and was probably needed further, when fifth to Bunty Boo at Salisbury on Thursday. A lightly-raced three-year-old, who won at Newmarket in May when contesting her first race, she can soon win again. (J Fanshawe)
